Cam Swap this weekend need assistance.
« on: April 02, 2014, 02:49:35 PM »
Looking for someone local with Cam swap experience to assist, the hard work is all done, just need someone that has done this a few times to guide me as I do it. (not do the work for me). Im a little nervous never having done a cam before. I am in the East Brunswick Area and will compensate with beer and food!!!  Inbox me  or call my cell 732-558-4560  Looking to do it Sunday April 6th so i can be up for the season. 90% of the stuff is apart right now. Its a timing belt conversion set up on a SBC.

Hey Julian how have you been? I haven't seen you post any updates to your project in a while. I can't make it in Sunday nor have I any experience with a sbc/belt drive setup. But I hope you find someone to help you. Keep us posted with te rest of your project too!

Im doing myself and am taking it slow and it has been a learning process. i learned the following 2 things thus far:

1) On a SBC with a 3.75 stroke, you most likely need a smaller base circle cam around .900 BC or it hits the rod bolts

2) on a solid roller cam you need to run a bronze distributor gear.

Which brings me to my next question, anyone know of anyone that can swap a distributor gear for me? That looks like a whole different cluster F of a project that i care not venture forth on..

All of the cam gears I've ever seen simply have a roll pin that you just drive out with a drift. Pretty simple.

AND the same procedure, to remove and replace a distributor gear ie- drive the roll pin out with a good fitting drift, while supporting the gear in a VEE block. Perhaps use a new roll pin when installing the "dizzy" gear   :dunno:

And who the hell started using the word "DIZZY" in place of distributor? Probably the same sideways hat wearing, trousers halfway down his ass jackazz ricer boy that also started saying "NAWS" instead if N O S. Kids these days! Please don't propagate that word!!!

I have! That's my point. Who started this re-naming system for traditional car parts? It just bothers me!

Yes it was simple..I thought for some reason the gear would be pressed on with some special magical distributor installation tool..But it slid right off and the new one right on.. :victory:
